Abortion is healthcare and healthcare is a basic human right. The Supreme Court has stripped us of this and it can only be viewed as an act of violence. As a cis-man, I recognize my extreme privilege in this country, but I stand with everyone who is impacted by this ruling and believe everyone deserves to have autonomy over their own body. People will die from this ruling and it’s on all of us, especially those with privilege, to fight back.
As summer blazes on, the new releases continue to pile up. Burna Boy, who recently sold out Madison Sq Garden, drops his latest, Love, Damini, his first since 2020 before he heads back to the city to headline Afropunk Brooklyn. The unstoppable Moor Mother also has a new one out today as her creative streak continues and shows no signs of slowing down.
Momma are the latest alt-rock band out of Brooklyn to channel scuzzy ‘90s rock and bring out the fuzzy riffs and all of the lead singles suggest this will be another great addition to the scene’s revival. Two Shell dropped the acclaimed track “home” earlier this year and this week they followed it up with the slamming new EP Icons. As the breakout electronic act of the year, this release only furthers their energy and affirms their hype as they throw it back to classic dubstep, 2-step, and UK garage with splashes of techno.
Nick Zinner will return with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs later this year, but today he’s shared his new project entitled 41 Strings which arrives in four sections, one named for each of the seasons. In a wild twist, the soundtrack to the new movie Minions: The Rise Of Gru is out today as is its incredible soundtrack featuring the likes of Diana Ross, Tame Impala, St. Vincent covering Lipps Inc., Phoebe Bridgers covering the Carpenters, Thundercat covering the Steven Miller Band, Caroline Polachek slaying Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang,” as well as many more and of course it was produced by none other than in-demand pop sensation Jack Antonoff.
Dan Snaith announced a new album under his moniker Daphni and also shared the new track, “Cloudy,” which is another stellar addition to his arsenal of grooves. Fred again.., another rising sensation in the world of dance music, dropped a banger entitled “Jungle” that features co-production credits from the one and only Kieran Hebdan, best known as Four Tet. Not to be excluded, Bicep also shared a new track called “Meli (II),” a new version of a track that appeared on the deluxe edition of their last record, which they’ve been testing live on the road and have now been able to fine tune for a new release.
Rina Sawayama shared plans for her new album which will be out this fall and dropped a new track that feels like it could set her up for her most straightforward and classic pop sound yet. Men I Trust shared the piano-driven, lush, jazzy ballad “Hard to Let Go,” which, for now, seems to be a one off single following last year’s Untourable Album.
Stranger Things returns this weekend for the final two episodes of Season 4 Part II and to usher in the event, they’ve teamed up with Spotify to create a playlist unique to you that would save you from Vecna’s spell and give you your own “Running Up That Hill” moment. If you know, you know.
