We’ve made it past the half-way mark of 2025 and as we enter the last six months of the year, we have some heaters to keep up with the sweltering weather. At long last, brothers Pusha T and Malice are back with the first Clipse album in sixteen years and it’s more of their ice cold bars and diligent, meticulous flow as the two trade bars off diamond-sharp beats. Produced entirely by Pharrell, it’s a momentous return from one of the greatest duos in Hip Hop history.
After making a striking debut record, there’s always slight concern on what a sophomore album will bring, but Wet Leg look to dodge the dreaded slump on their second go around. Their exhilarating performance at Primavera Sound last month also helped to build the hype and the lead singles are showcasing a band that has come into their sound with great strides.
It’s been an interesting ride if you’ve been following Justin Bieber’s activities as of late (I must admit that I, personally have not), but after some twists and turns of whether or not he’s out of money, exiting his clothing company, or battling some other demons, he actually has a new album out today (surprise!) and it’s called Swag. Reportedly, the lead single was produced by rising rocker Mk.gee which only adds to the whirlwind and if this was all some elaborate rollout scheme, well good for him.
Amorphous ambient jazz has been on the rise over the past few years (or maybe I’m just finally paying attention) and today a new trio dips their toes into the sonic pool. Nate Mercereau, Josh Johnson, and Carlos Niño are no strangers to this scene and have played on lots of excellent records recently, but now they’ve teamed up to deliver something spacious and exploratory, full of meditative and dissonant grooves.
Afro-jazz collective KOKOROKO have been a rising group in London’s impressive jazz scene for a while and today they’re dropping their sophomore album. Continuing on their trend of expressive rhythms and vibrant grooves, it’s a lush collection of songs that brings forth numerous influences and makes it something uniquely their own.
As we gear up for the new Big Thief album, their first as a trio, they’ve shared another breezy new song that offers a lightness to their evolving sound. It’s a spacial, yet intimate song that floats effortlessly with soft flourishes from the band that gives it some slight texture.
Black metal shoegazers Agriculture announced their new album this week and shared the sinister new song “Bodhidharma.” This is a brutal new track that surges with powerful riffs and harrowing screams before it ignites in a guitar solo full of psychedelic wonder and total fury.
It’s been six years since the last Jay Som record, but in that time she’s collaborated with Palehound under the moniker Bachelor and spent time on tour playing in boygenius. This week, along with announcing the new album, she’s shared two new songs, one of which features vocals from Jim Adkins of Jimmy eat World (whoa oh oh)!
The steady steak of Hot Chip is going to be celebrated this fall when the band releases their greatest hits compilation. Along with their mighty hits, the band is adding a exuberant new track, “Devotion,” which they say is about their love to keep going as a group after so many years together.
“Taxes” is the revved up new track from Geese (not to be confused with Jam band Goose) and it finds them in turbo mode, locked in and ready to rock. It’s the charging new single from their upcoming album which is due in the fall and it’s an absolute heater that will undoubtably rip when played in front of a live crowd.
Finally, as has been my tradition since 2015, I shared my best of the year (so far) list over the 4th of July weekend and it includes my favorite records from the first six months of 2025. You can check it out here!
