As we enter the midst of summer, new releases continue to slow down (although there are a few big names coming next week). The highlights today are new ones from Clairo, Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene, and WILLOW.
Yves Tumor also dropped a surprise EP this week featuring their latest single, “Jackie,” and New York noise makers A Place To Bury Strangers are back with a new line-up and new EP that focuses more on industrial tones than their brazen shoegaze past. It’s still plenty loud, however.
CHVRCHES shared another new song from their upcoming album which is due later this summer and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke remixed the band’s breakout single “Creep” to give it new life and texture for 2021. A very fitting remix indeed.
Also announced this week was a new tribute album to the Velvet Underground’s seminal debut record featuring track-by-track covers by artists such as Iggy Pop, Michael Stipe, Sharon Van Etten with Angel Olsen, Courtney Barnett, Thurston Moore, Andrew Bird and plenty of others. Kurt Vile and the Violaters shared their cover of “Run Run Run” as the kick-off single and it’s a fuzzed-out and faithful take on the original.
There are also new ones from Normani featuring Cardi B as well as HAIM to help beat the summer heat!
