This week marks the return of Sleater-Kinney who are back as a duo with their first ever self-produced record. We also have a new one from doom and gloom wizards Cold Cave. Danny Elfman is also releasing his first new album of non-soundtrack material since the ‘80s! There’s also a new one from Migos.
Bo Burnham also recently dropped a new special on Netflix. It’s somewhere between a film, music video, and something else that is totally unique and creative. If you haven’t watched it, do so immediately. You can also enjoy the songs as standalone works of art (although the images really elevate the experience).
Deafheaven announced their fifth record and shared the shoegaze/dream-pop lead single which finds them moving away from their black metal past and towards a new chapter in their career. We also finally got a new single from Lorde and it’s a high contender for the Song of the Summer! It also features Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, a former drummer from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, and was produced by Jack Antonoff. Clairo also announced her own new album produced by Antonoff and shared the lead single on which Lorde returns the backing vocal favor.
The Strokes have announced what is said to be the first full-capacity indoor concert in New York City since the start of the pandemic and it happens Saturday night at Irving Plaza. Meanwhile, Foo Fighters announced what will be the first full-capacity arena concert in NYC since March 2020. That one goes down on Sunday, June 20 at the world’s most famous arena: Madison Square Garden. Live music is back, y’all, and I’ll be at both!
Finally, tomorrow is the first Record Store Day of the year (the second is in July) and, as always, there are a ton of great releases (none of which are listed below). Happy hunting to all those who will be participating.
