June is ending with the first major releases of the summer season and there is a ton of great music for fans of all genres this week. Lucy Dacus’ Home Video is the big one this week. It’s her first album since 2019’s Historian which helped put her on the map along with her playing with pals Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers in boygenius. The other major release is the recently announced new one from Tyler, the Creator. With only a week’s notice and a short, but solid single, the hype for this one only seems to be getting started.
Modest Mouse are also back this week with their first album in six years and the lead singles suggest a new sense of sound and experiments with more electronic elements. SAULT, the mysterious U.K. collective behind two of 2020’s best records, also announced a new project called Nine (perhaps a reference to their 2019 releases Five and Seven) and it will only be available for the next 99 days (unclear if that means the vinyl versions will self-destruct or not).
This Is Pop! is a new special on Netflix that explores popular music from eight different stories and perspectives. It features Boyz II Men, Orville Peck, Shania Twain, T-Pain, Babyface, Blur, and more. It’s pure nostalgic comfort food and an engaging look at some pretty fun and unique experiences. Everything from Britpop, to the history of the modern music festival, to how the most iconic pop songs of the last 50 years came from Sweden. Anyone who is interested in music is sure to find it entertaining and if you’re more than just a fan, you’ll probably want to watch all of it in a single sitting.
Last weekend, Foo Fighters played the first full-capacity show at Madison Square Garden since March 2020 (vaccines were required for all who attended). Needless to say, it was amazing and an iconic performance from one of the biggest rock bands of the past 25 years and one that I will never forget.
And finally, #FreeBritney!
