Happy Pride Month and National Donut Day! With Memorial Day behind us, summer feels like it is already in full swing and we’re kicking off the season with one of the most anticipated indie rock records of the year. NY Times best selling author Japanese Breakfast shares her newest album, Jubilee, and it’s propelled by the lead single and Song of the Year contender “Be Sweet.” We also have a new one from former Vampire Weekender and overall producer wunderkind, Rostam.
The rest of the albums this week aren’t so high on the list, but there are a ton of new songs that are worth calling out, specifically the latest from Jungle and DARKSIDE in addition to the latest from CHVRCHES which features Robert Smith from the Cure. We’ve also got some unreleased gems from Prince and the Beach Boys, the later of which will drop an epic box set at the end of next month.
In New York City, life certainly feels like it’s starting to return to normal with more and more shows getting announced. SummerStage in Central and Prospect Park have announced their line-ups (with some great free show options from Armand Hammer + The Alchemist and Patti Smith, separately) and a new venue in Bushwick called Brooklyn Made will open this fall. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over tickets to see Jeff Tweedy on opening night a few blocks from my old apartment going for $120+, but as they like to say, natural is healing? Nothing in New York is constant, except for the change.
