Leading the charge this week is the new release from Camp Cope. The Melbourne trio return with their new album, Running With The Hurricane, and they’re led by the singular voice of Georgia Maq who sounds more alive and better than ever on the crushing lead singles. We also have the posthumous album from Tribe’s Phife Dawg.
Aldous Harding returns this week as well with her new album, Warm Chris, and Maren Morris is back with Humble Quest. Kavinsky, the retro EDM artist who made a splash with their ‘80s vibes drops a new one this week as well.
black midi, one of the leading bands in the new wave of British post-punk shared a cover EP this week and you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you neglected their version of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story.” There’s also the latest from Soul Glo and Guerilla Toss if you’re looking for some heavier music to close out the week.
Hatchie shared another single from her upcoming album and continues to lure us in with her ethereal shoegaze that dabbles in New Order post-punk and the luminary sounds of the Cocteau Twins. It’s a rich track, full of texture, that will leave your head spinning. We also got another heavy song from Greet Death which Stereogum describes as My Bloody Valentine meets the Lemonheads. Perfect if you’re looking for that alternative ‘90s sound.
Soccer Mommy announced a new album this week and shared the lead single, “Shotgun.” The entire record was produced by Oneohtrix Point Never and you can feel his compressed, digital wash take over Allison’s lo-fi hooks. We also got a new one from EXUM who left the NFL to make alternative R&B, but actually makes a radical shift towards dreamy indie rock on the excellent track “X. Anima.”
The Range announced his first album in six years. It features the recent song “Bicameral” as well as the new track “Ricercar.” Bloc Party are gearing up for their new album and shared one of their best songs in years, “If We Get Caught.” There’s also a new one from Let’s Eat Grandma, “Levitation.”
Finally, if you’re into podcasts, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood stopped in with the guys on Smartless to talk about their new band, The Smile, and the future of Radiohead.
