March is off to a slow start in terms of actual releases, but there are still some great highlights this week. The most notable release for me is the debut record from Painted Shrines (featuring members of Woods and The Skygreen Leopards) which has a bit of a ‘60s / Laurel Canyon vibe to it with all the hallmarks you’d expect from Woodsist groups. There is also a new one from Phil Elverum under The Microphones moniker out today, but it’s only available in physical formats and contains no songs, purely background sounds from a foghorn as the title aptly suggests. Drake has also released a surprise EP called Scary Hours 2. There is also a great new documentary on Netflix called Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell that is well worth your time.
While actual new releases for this week are slim, we did get some great announcements this week that will being new records from Godspeed You! Black Emperor, St. Vincent, Japanese Breakfast, and Rostam in the next few months.
