The big news of the week is the return of Sleater-Kinney. As Pitchfork states, “one of the best rock bands to ever do it” is back, now as a duo, and are ready to release their first self-produced record next month. The latest single is a return-to-form classic that sounds like the band is up to their old, excellent tricks.
In terms of new music to listen to now, the main attractions this week are the London jazz ensemble Sons of Kemet who return with their album Black to the Future and St. Vincent who drops Daddy’s Home, her tack on sleazy, ‘70s-era NYC. What is sure to be one of the biggest Hip-Hop releases of the year comes this week from J Cole and his new record The Off Season.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also announced this year’s inductees and for the first time ever, three women are part of the line up. Tina Turner and Carol King, however, were previously inducted for their work in groups, but this will be their first time entering the hall as solo women. Long, long overdue.
Skrillex released a new song featuring Four Tet and for the first time, I’ve found myself listening to a Skrillex song on repeat. Leon Bridges also shared his first single from his new album, Gold-Diggers Sound, which is out later this year. Olivia Rodrigo also dropped a pop-punk banger called “good 4 u” ahead of her debut album SOUR which is out next week.
