As you might expect, the week is quite limited in terms of new releases so this edition of Gold Soundz will be slightly abridged. Of course, today is also Record Store Day Black Friday Edition, which means there are a lot of new, exclusive releases that’ll be available at select indie retailers today.
Guided By Voices continue their unbelievable streak with yet another brand new album, their third of the year and fortieth overall in their incredible career. Rap legend Busta Rhymes has a new album out today featuring exclusive production from Swizz Beats, Pharrell, and Timbaland.
Bay-area rapper Kamaiyah has been dropping loads of singles over the past year, but today she’s back with a brand new album/mixtape, continuing her hot streak of independent releases. Richie Culver is bridging the gap of industrial noise and experimental hip-hop and his latest releases features some of the best of the underground including billy woods and Moor Mother as guests.
For over twenty years, Light In the Attic has become known for their reissues and discoveries of some of the most vital and “lost” albums of all time. This week, they’re releasing a compilation that highlights many of those fantastic releases and showcases the profound depth and range of the albums they’ve helped reintroduce to the world.
Cloud Nothings frontman Dylan Cabaldi announced a new EP of solo material this week, he plays every instrument on the release, and says it’s a “collection of things i made while working towards something else in the fall of 2023.”
At some point between her landmark albums Homogenic and Vespertine, avant-pop queen Björk wrote and recorded the song “Oral,” but deemed it too pop-forward and sugary for the records she was working on at the time, so she shelved it. Recently, she rediscovered the song and asked ROSALÍA to join her on the track, giving it new life while still recalling the artist’s imperial phase.
Earlier this year, Bonnie Prince Billy released a new album named Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You. This week, he shared a new song featuring the same name, that wasn’t included on the record.
Finally, in a rather unexpected twist, post-punk band Sleaford Mods shared a cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ classic tune, “West End Girls.” To take things a step further, Pet Shop Boys went ahead and delivered a remix of the cover as well.
