November arrives and the streak of watershed new releases keeps on coming. Synth-pop wonders Phoenix are back today with their first new album in fives years. Alpha Zulu was recorded in parts of the Louvre during lockdown and signals the band’s return to their core sound of crystalline synths and crisp melodies to give a lush throwback to the mid 2000s.
Tom Skinner has already had a breakout year with his new band The Smile and today he drops his first solo record under his own name. The jazz drummer keeps things loose and his inventive rhythms and unique melodies offer something exciting while also heightening his work with his other band.
Glenn Donaldson has been releasing an unbelievable amount of new music this year as The Reds, Pinks and Purples and today he is back with yet another collection of tracks to prove he has no signs of slowing down his delicate, sun-soaked dream-pop tunes. Also not one to show signs of slowing down, Boldy James drops a new album this week as well to keep his hot streak alive as one of the most inventive rappers in the game alive.
Dean Fertita is best known for his work in Queens of the Stone Age and the Dead Weather, but today he makes his solo debut with his new album Tropical Gothclub. Spoon already released their excellent and underrated new album Lucifer on the Sofa earlier this year, but today they’re back with the Dub version of reworked takes on each track for the new version called Lucifer on the Moon.
Indie rock titans Yo La Tengo announced their sixteenth studio album is due in 2023 and shared the excellent new song “Fallout” which sounds like quintessential Yo La Tengo and hits on all of their best notes. A remarkable feat for a band that has already given us so much.
Yves Tumor released their first new song of 2022, the energetic punk smash “God is a Country” which reaffirms their spot as one of the most exciting and promising musicians of today, constantly shaping the future of new genres.
