2022 really is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to new releases. This week, we get the new record from Alvvays, a band that set the hearts of indie kids on fire with their phenomenal track “Archie, Marry Me” back in 2014 and with the plethora of singles that they’ve shared so far, this new one is shaping up to be another stellar album of bright burning indie-pop smeared in a shoegaze fuzz.
Daphni, the moniker of Dan Snaith who also records as Caribou, drops a new one this week as well and it’s also full of charged-up techno that will certainly have you grooving hard on the dance floor. Caribou tunes already beat with a distinct pulse, but when he dons the Daphni name, Snaith brings the blitzed-out intensity to new extremes.
Peel Dream Magazine return this week with Pad, a dreamy mood piece that brightens with melodic pop and vibrant guitars over lush riffs and billowing choruses. Indigo Sparke also shared her new album this week. Hysteria’s lead singles have been delicate balms that highlight airy vocals and warm melodies.
Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava is the first of several new records King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have lined up for this month alone, naturally keeping their unbelievably prolific streak firmly intact. It’s the usual high impact psych-rock full of the usual elements that seem to flow out of them with extreme ease. Swedish psych-rockers Dungen are back this week too with their first album in seven years, the primal En Är För Mycket Och Tusen Aldrig Nog.
Dozens and dozens of incredible bands and artists like Andrew Bird, Animal Collective, Bully, Cat Power, Daniel Rossen, David Byrne and Devo, Death Cab for Cutie, Dirty Projectors, Fleet Foxes, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Mac DeMarco, Mary Lattimore, Maya Hawke, My Morning Jacket, Pearl Jam, R.E.M., She & Him, Silversun Pickups, Sleater-Kinney, Soccer Mommy, Tegan and Sara, Tenacious D, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, Tune-Yards, Ty Segall, Water From Your Eyes, Wet Leg have come together to take part in a new compilation that’s out today. From the Bandcamp page: [It's a] Compilation made up of previously-unreleased recordings – featuring new songs, covers, remixes, live versions & unreleased demos. Available for only 24 hours, exclusively on Bandcamp on Friday 10/7 starting at 12:01am PT. Tee shirt of the album art by Kim Gordon to be sold 10/7 on Bandcamp. All net proceeds from album & tees will go to Abortion Care Network, Brigid Alliance and NOISE FOR NOW.
In time for the seasonal shift, Fever Ray have come clanging back with the slithering electro banger “What They Call Us,” their first new track since 2017. Karin’s lower register takes the lead here while electronics hum and drums bang with steel force and icy rhythms. Sharon Van Etten has announced a deluxe edition to her album from this spring, You’re Going About This All Wrong. It features her two singles from earlier this year as well as two brand new ones including the one she shared this week, “Never Gonna Change.”
Six years since their last album, Autre Ne Veut returned this week with a new poppy R&B number that picks up right where he left off, pairing simple melody and beats with his signature vocal stylings. With a new album only a few weeks away, rising techno sensation Fred again.. has shared yet another track from the record, the hypnotic “Kammy (like i do),” a track sure to keep the groove going strong on the dance floor.
