September arrives and brings us a solid line-up of new releases for the long weekend ahead. Shoegaze icons Slowdive lead the week with their second reunion album and first release in seven years. The lengthy time between records hasn’t contributed to a change in their classic sound and the new album brings forth more of their majestic and moving tracks.
Indie rock staples Speedy Ortiz have a new record out today that continues their steady path of rock solid staples that drives their sound steadily along its path of crunchy guitars and balanced percussion. Jeff Rosenstock also dropped a new one this week that features killer hooks and swelling choruses, primed and ready to rock with the masses.
Heart of Animals return this week with Imaginary Heartbreak, their fifth album and one that captures dreamy vibes to create a sweet harmony of psych-folk and pop for a fully blissed-out experience. Former frontman of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Kyp Berman is back this week too with his latest release under the monkier The Natvral and while it moves from a dreamy to a folk aesthetic, his pop sensibilities remain strong and truthful.
A SPONTANEOUS BREAKING OF SYMMETRY I is the first release in an upcoming triptych from pianist Armen Nalbandian and drummer Chris Corsano and is spontaneously composed piece of work from the emotive musicians that was recorded last summer with the following pieces to be released next year.
Ahead of her upcoming mini-album, Jlin has shared the frenetic new single, “Paradigm.” It’s a total thrill ride of a track that packs its five-minute run-time to the brim while remaining cohesive and in control. Last week, Oneohtrix Point Never announced a new album and this week he shared the stuffed lead single, “A Barely Lit Path.” Queuing up baroque orchestral moments with heavily processed vocals and dense electronics makes for a totally unique and captivating song full of enriching textures and intriguing vibes.
Pop superstar Kylie Minogue is set to release her new album at the end of September and after ruling the summer with her hit “Padam Padam,” she’s back with the record’s title track and total disco banger “Tension.” In the decade since her last record, guitar phenom Marnie Stern played light night television for years while raising a family and has now returned to shred which she demonstrates with fervor on her new song “Plain Speak.”
Channeling ethereal folk and dream pop melodies, Maria BC came back with their first two songs from their upcoming record and both tracks encompass the hushed and ambient tones set to send you to the cosmos or into the warmest comforts of your mind. billy woods and E L U C I D dropped the second single from their upcoming record and the track, aptly named “Woke Up and Asked Siri How I’m Gonna Die,” features JPEGMAFIA and brings the warped sound the hottest duo in hip-hop, Armand Hammer, has been perfecting for quite some time.
Hardcore act Angel Du$t have shared the super fun new track “Born 2 Run,” something that’ll surely get you pumped and ready to party with raging euphoria and the highly prolific Ty Segall announced yet another new record and shared the sprawling jam “Void.”
Six years since their last release, The Kills have finally announced a new album and the duo’s seventh record is coming this October. Featuring a few tracks we’ve already heard, the band released the album’s third single this week, the scorching “103.” Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry has a solo album on the way and today she has shared the record’s first single, the slow and somber piano ballad “Are You Awake?”
